002: Peeta sat there unfocused and trembling while Portia’s replacement adjusted the hem of his pants. Half way between reality and a nightmare he overheard the peacekeepers talking. “Snow has decided to bomb 13” one said. The other glanced nervously at Peeta and said “Watch it, the boy’s here” The first peacekeeper scoffed and said “Who cares? He’s so far gone that he can’t understand.” as if in response to that, Peeta pressed his wrists into his cuffs and banged his head against the wall. “Anyways, the best part is, we know Katniss is in 13. She’ll be dead by morning.” The sound of her name sent a violent surge through Peeta, but the combination of her name and being dead shattered his heart and the illusion of her being a mutt for a fragment of a second. Peeta shut his eyes tightly trying to sort out this emotion. He wasn’t sure why, but he knew he had to save the mutt.
